About Mpaki Molapo

Mpaki Molapo is an award winning Screenwriter-Director  from Lesotho in Southern Africa who works between Lesotho, South Africa and Germany.

 

Mpaki holds an M.A in Film, Theory and Practise from the University of Cape Town, majoring in Screenwriting and Directing.


​Mpaki has scripted over 90 episodes of TV sitcoms, serial dramas and documentaries.  Some of the TV shows he has contributed to as a screenwriter have received numerous awards including being nominated as International Emmy Award Finalists. Some of Mpaki's feature film spec scripts have been finalists and official selections at various Film Festivals in Europe, America and South Africa.


Mpaki has also lectured film studies and screenwriting at various universities in Lesotho, Berlin and South Africa. In 2012 Mpaki published a cinema studies related book focused on  Japanese cinema entitled 'The Cross Cultural Camera of Akira Kurosawa.' Mpaki is presently developing a gang feature film script called 'We Are Satan's Soldiers' that was optioned by Dobro Films (Paris) at Cannes Film Festival 2017 and a short gangster film optioned at Clermont Ferrand Film Festival 2018. Mpaki presently teaches Film Theory, Screenwriting and Documentary Production at Limkokwing Lesotho and the National University of Lesotho.
